Owen Marks’ work on inclusion at Gilead has been nothing short of transformative. His recent workshop with our UKILT team was a powerful reminder of how thoughtful leadership can drive real cultural change. What makes Owen’s approach so impactful is his ability to make complex and sensitive topics, like micro incivilities and psychological safety, not just accessible, but deeply relatable. He doesn’t rely on theory or corporate jargon. Instead, he uses real-life examples and creates space for honest, sometimes uncomfortable conversations that lead to meaningful reflection and accountability. The session focused on the power of language in shaping inclusive environments. We explored how everyday words and behaviours can either foster belonging or unintentionally exclude. Owen equipped us with practical strategies to build confidence in addressing sensitive topics and to embed inclusion into our daily interactions.

Beyond the workshop, Owen facilitated a prioritised action plan across key areas: Inclusive Culture, Inclusive Recruitment, and Transparency. His recommendations, like neurodiversity training, inclusive job advert practices, and re-launching our values were not only insightful but immediately actionable.

Thanks to Owen’s leadership, we’re not just more aware, we’re changing how we show up for each other, and this workshop was a major step forward.
